Egerton University Chancellor, Prof. Shem O. Wandiga, Receives UNESCO Medal

The Egerton University Council, the University Management Board, and the entire university community congratulate Prof. Shem O. Wandiga on being awarded the 2015 UNESCO Medal “For contribution to the development of nanoscience and nanotechnologies”.

The award ceremony took place on 10 April 2015 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, and was presided over by the Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova.

The Medal was established by the International Commission on the Development of the Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS) under UNESCO. To be associated with this body and to be the recipient of its Medal is a mark of the highest scholarly distinction.

This great honour recognises the fact that as Prof. Wandiga spearheads the advance being made in the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnologies he also ensures that societies and economies the world over, but particularly in the developing world, reap the benefits from this progress.

We celebrate Prof. Wandiga’s unique achievement and we are proud that he is our Chancellor.
