Workshop on Lasers in Teaching and Research

The CSIR National Laser Centre (NLC), together with Egerton University, Kenya and University of Eldoret, Kenya is pleased to announce an African Laser Centre sponsored short course on Lasers in Teaching and Research: Theory and Applications. The course will cover theoretical aspects of lasers, laser beam propagation, lasers in teaching and research as well as laser safety and applications. The course is targeted towards graduate students, young researchers and university lecturers who wish to apply lasers in teaching and research. The course lectures will be given by local and overseas speakers.
Topics will include:

  • Introduction to Lasers
  • Propagation of laser beams and their properties
  • Modern Optics
  • Laser Safety
  • Incorporating Laser-based experiments in the curriculum
  • Laser resonators (Includes assembling of a laser)
  • Applications of lasers in Physical, Life and Environmental Sciences

Pertinent information

  • The course is fully sponsored by the African Laser Centre for all delegates from South Africa, Kenya and other African Countries (all costs associated with accommodation, transport and flights, as well as meals will be covered).
  • Applications will be considered from both South African and African graduate students, researchers, academic staff and technicians.
  • The course will include the assembling of a laser, networking opportunities for future collaborative research, a visit to the famous Lake Nakuru National Park (the home of flamingos) and a social event.
  • The Course lectures will take place at ‘The ARC Hotel,’ Egerton University, Kenya, while Laser assembly demonstration will take place in Physics Department at the University.
  • The closing date for completed applications is the 16th June 2013.

28th Graduation Ceremony

DIVISION OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE 28TH GRADUATION CEREMONY1. DATEEgerton University wishes to inform ALL candidates who qualified for theconferment of various degrees and award of diplomas of Egerton University during the 2012/2013 academic year that the Graduation Ceremony will take place on Friday, 26th July 2013 starting at 9.00 a.m. at Njoro Campus.  ALL GRADUANDS AND GUESTS SHOULD BE SEATED BY 8.30 A.M.2. REHEARSALAll graduands who wish to participate in the ceremony and have paid all fees must attend the rehearsal on Thursday 25th July 2013 at 2.30 p.m.  All graduands attending the rehearsal should be seated by 2.00 p.m.  Each graduand will be provided with three invitation cards.  The cards will be issued by the Deans of respective Faculties on Wednesday, 24th July, 2013.3. GRADUATION AND ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FEEGraduands will be required to pay the following fees of which Kes. 1000/= will be Alumni fees.  These fees must be paid at any branch of Kenya Commercial Bank into Egerton University Account No. 110 191 0895 and an official receipt obtained at the Njoro cash office before Wednesday, 24th July 2013.

They also get to see for themselves the resources available at the University. This occasion also accords the alumni, the Industry and the community at large the opportunity to explore ways of strengthening and expanding linkages with the University. In particular, the alumni have a chance to reflect on the activities of the University and assess how best to support them. The Industry and the University are able to evaluate and expand joint programmes. Artificial Insemination Training At Egerton University

Artificial Insemination Training AT EGERTON UNIVERSITYThe department of Veterinary clinical studies in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery advertises the trainining of Artificial Insemination technicians to be held  from 19th August, 2013 to 13th September, 2013. Tuition fees are Kshs. 27,500/- catering and accommodation fees are not included.
